A Six-Part Video Series Showcasing ATX Public Access Television. Episodes include; Famous Folks, Pride on Primetime, Cable for a Cause, The City That Rocks Part One and Two, On The Street.
In the days before YouTube, Twitter, and social media, if you had something to say there was only one place to go: Austin Community Television! A few bucks, a couple classes, and literally anyone could have a camera in hand with their own show on TV. Still going after nearly 50 years, few people know that Austin has the longest running Public Access television station in the country. In this six-part series we have curated some of the weirdest and most touching moments from five decades of average Austinites making not so average TV. In “Famous Folks”, we see the likes of Allen Ginsberg, James Brown, and many other cultural legends who visited town. In “The City That Rocks”, we find out why Austin is a hub for live music. In “On The Street” we see the City’s many cultural shifts through 50 years of everyday people stopping to talk to the camera. So tune in, sit back, and enjoy five decades of guerilla television!
The first 5 episodes are available to stream at home through AFS Virtual Cinema starting October 23. On November 15, join us for the sixth and final episode, airing live on Austin Public with a Q&A after the screening. https://austinfilm.secure.force.com/ticket/#/events/a3j1K0000096gNNQAY
