Francine Kay Affourtit is a Philadelphia based artist, educator and arts organizer. Affourtit’s practice converges at the intersection of language, systems, and the methodology of printmaking as a means for developing structures where chance and control can dance in a rhythmic duet. the artist’s studio work concentrates on re-thinking the applications of printmaking to create sculptural installations and unique constructions from woodcuts. Harnessing the serendipity inherent in the printmaking process and the unique mark-making of wood, Affourtit seeks to investigate the intricacy of visual comprehension by giving form to ideas waiting for their language. The artist is constructing a large scale print specifically for the main wall of this exhibition.
Affourtit will also be offering a workshop at Bone Black while she is Austin. A reception for the artist will be held February 20th from 7-9pm.
