2000 Light Years From Home (Travis Austin)

2000 Light Years From Home (Travis Austin)

Presented by Church of the Friendly Ghost at Salvage Vanguard Theater

Short film double feature and a prototyped virtual reality sound piece for you to experience in person.

Small Urban Spaces: An audiovisual piece involving fixed frame live action shots of New York, ambient field recordings, motion graphics, 3D modeling and original sound compositions derived from site-specific landscapes. This work is a contemporary sound artist’s response to the film The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces by William H. Whyte, a study on some of New York City’s public space engagement and usage in the late 70’s.

Fullerene: Musical remnants of a botched collaborative experimental film effort were refashioned and synchronized to Mel Brook’s Spaceballs. The results totally change the viewing experience, at times adding a sense of gravity to the hijinks and often bringing the non-verbal elements of the film to the forefront. Some of the gags land even harder. When life gives you balls…

Immobile Order: Multi-song music video. The sound pieces here are based on spatial arrangements of site-specific NYC landscapes seen in the video. This video comprises the music on one side of the upcoming cassette tape release by Mediums on Accrue Cassettes. Cassettes are coming back too!
