AFS Presents: Alice In The Cities

AFS Presents: Alice In The Cities

Presented by Austin Film Society at AFS Cinema

DIRECTED BY WIM WENDERS

West Germany, 1974, DCP, 110 min
In German with English Subtitles

Shot on gorgeous black and white 16mm, ALICE IN THE CITIES is the first film in Wenders’ “Road Movie Trilogy.” Though technically his fourth feature, Wenders himself considers it his first, since with it he discovered his essential theme: the road. Rüdiger Vogler (WRONG MOVE; KINGS OF THE ROAD) makes his first appearance as Phillip Winter, an aspiring journalist stuck with a stranger’s daughter named Alice. Tasked with finding her grandmother, the two venture through various German cities guided solely by Alice’s vague memories.
