Ensemble VIII presents “In Service to the Pope – Josquin, Palestrina, and the Roman School” on May 8 at St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Josquin and Palestrina represent the height of musical excellence in each of their eras. Both served the papal choir in Rome during turbulent political times, when each managed to refine and develop their mature styles, leaving us some of the most significant music of the Renaissance. Ensemble VIII concludes the season with its annual signature “Renaissance splendor” program culminating with Palestrina’s “Pope Marcellus Mass.”
