Red Salmon Arts Presents

A Book Release for Language of Crossing by Liza Wolff-Francis: A Poetry Collection about the Mexico-US Border. With Special Guest with ire’ne lara silva.

Liza Wolff-Francis is a poet and writer with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College. She was co-director for the 2014 Austin International Poetry Festival and a member of the 2008 Albuquerque Poetry Slam Team. She has an ekphrastic poem posted in Austin’s Blanton Art Museum by El Anatsui’s sculpture “Seepage” and her work has most recently appeared in Poetry Pacific, Edge, Twenty, Border Senses, and on various blogs. She has a chapbook out called Language of Crossing (2015, Swimming with Elephant Publications), which is a collection of poems about the Mexico- U.S. border. She is also a social worker and is starting a new non-profit for Spanish speaking survivors of sexual violence called Casa Fortaleza. Every day she eats both popcorn and dark chocolate and she currently lives in Albuquerque, NM.

“A passionate supporter of the rights of undocuemented immigrants, Liza Wolff-Francis puts faces and names to the tragedy of the border. Wolff-Francis refuses to look away, refuses to deny the reality of violence, anguish, and death, refuses to remain silent or complicty. This collection brings us all together, leaves us all a little more human.”
-ire’ne lara silva
author of flesh to bone

“Liza Wolff-Francis’s Language of Crossing is a collection of poetry that mirrors the true heart-stories along the US/Mexico border. Giving face, voice and humanity to all those who make their way across fronteras, her work is that of a necessary endeavor. She writes of a reality that must be ignored no longer.”
-Jessica Helen Lopez
Albuquerque Poet Laureate

“In Language of Crossing, Liza Wolff-Francis writes about the ‘dialect’ of ‘speaking border.’ In this powerful collection we are immersed in the brutal and beautiful worlds of those who attempt the crossing. Some live to tell their tales; others speak from the beyond. Their voices are unforgettable.”
-Valerie Martinez
author of Each and Her
former Santa Fe Poet Laureat
