Four short operas. One big showcase. Taste the future of opera!
After another successful year, welcome back One Ounce Opera’s most popular event!
One Ounce Opera presents the 5th Annual Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Opera, staged at The Museum of Human Achievement, an intimate and accessible warehouse space in the heart of East Austin. Selected after a competitive national call, experience this year’s winning crop of new micro-operas, performed in English, and meet the hip composers and librettists who penned them. Intriguing characters, unexpected stories, varied styles and colors: taste the future of opera, one ounce at a time!
In this intimate venue, there are less than 100 guests admitted per performance. Past FSOOs have sold out, and with the buzz around this year’s showcase, we expect it to fill quickly. Complimentary beverages provided with entry (21+ and non-alcoholic options). This show is rated PG-13 for language and adult situations. Dress comfortably and bring a friend! Advanced admission available, pay-what-you-wish!

Why a Short Opera Showcase?
Here’s a familiar scene…let’s say you walk into a new brewery. Their tap wall is expansive. Dark, complex, light, refreshing. You choose a sampler to satisfy your curiosity — and get turned on to something new.
FSOO is that sampler. One Ounce’s curated program will introduce four new thoughtful short operatic works to you, our eclectic audience. Topics are varied, current, and inquisitive. We guarantee you’ll experience something fresh and unexpected.
And you’ll laugh. A lot.
It’s no secret the popularity of the classical arts is experiencing a modern renaissance. There is a need to foster creation of new opera and give young, up-and-coming composers and librettists an opportunity to have their works staged. By supporting and attending FSOO, you directly contribute to the advancement of opera’s strong contemporary voice. It’s like saying “Hey – opera’s cool. I wanna make sure new stuff keeps coming, and Austin’s a great place to bring it to life!”
One Ounce Opera is a sponsored project of The Museum of Human Achievement. This project is sponsored in part by The City of Austin Cultural Arts Division and KMFA 89.5.
