Favorite Austin Artists Jeffrey Jones-Ragona, tenor; The Artisan Quartet (Patrice Calixte, Caleb Hans Polashek, Bruce Williams, and Douglas Harvey) and Martha Mortensen Ahern, pianist will present the rarely performed song cycle “On Wenlock Edge” by Ralph Vaughan Williams in its original 1911 version. This work is based on the incredibly evocative poetry drawn from A. E. Houseman’s “A Shropshire Lad” with themes of confronting one’s past, losing love, and ultimately, finding oneself. For a bit of high drama, there’s even a dialogue between a ghost and his friend who betrayed him. The Artisan Quartet will also perform Dvorak’s Quartet Op. 51.
