Small Business Saturday @ the Canopy Fine Arts Complex

Small Business Saturday @ the Canopy Fine Arts Complex

Presented by Art.Science.Gallery. at Canopy Austin

Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support local businesses in your community. Canopy is home to dozens of local artist studios, art galleries & other creative businesses.

This year’s Small Business Saturday at Canopy will feature a pop-up trunk show by artist Cathy Savage, an indigo dye workshop by Women Printmakers of Austin, open studio hours with artist Rebecca Bennett, and more!

Meet the artists, take part in art workshops, shop for holiday gifts, and don’t forget to invite your friends, too. Come and show your love for the small local businesses in your neighborhood!

CATHY SAVAGE POP-UP TRUNK SHOW

Cathy Savage is an Austin-based artist; she focuses mainly on printmaking and collage but will venture off on occasion and create in any medium. Her current work is influenced by science and mathematics as well as prominent historical leaders in the fields. Prints of Cathy Savage’s works can be found in the Art.Science.Gallery. shop and will be for sale during this trunk show.

WPA INDIGO DYEING DROP-IN
 // Noon – 5 PM

This Small Business Saturday please join the Women Printmakers of Austin at Bone Black Studio & Gallery for a day of indigo dyeing fun!  We will be opening up the studio for an informal indigo dyeing workshop.

This event is open to members and non-members, adults and kids 8 and up. Kids 8-12 must be accompanied by an adult willing to assist them throughout the indigo dyeing process.

For a suggested $5 per-person donation – bring up to 3 pieces of fabric, t-shirts, tennis shoes (pair counts as one item), jeans – any natural fiber items you would like to dye in indigo. Natural fibers that work best are cottons and silks. Polyester fibers or blends tend to not hold dye as well.

We will have reference books on hand explaining folding and dyeing techniques as well as the supplies needed for dyeing – rubber bands, twine, pipes, bottle caps, dry beans, boards, etc. After dyeing, we will bag up your items in plastic bags to take home where they can finish drying.  Wash your pieces in warm water (no bleach) dry, and use– items should be bagged individually.

Just in time for the holidays!  Give the gift of your personally dyed indigo treasure!
