In its sixth year and slated for yet another highly successful and sold-out performance, this NCAA-inspired tournament competition brings original string quartet compositions head-to-head in front of a live, participatory audience.
IT’S LIKE MARCH MADNESS FOR THE EARS!
A panel of judges – including Annie Gosfield of New York City, Dario González Valderrama of Mexico City, and Leigh Ann Hahn of Los Angeles – helped select the sixteen finalist compositions to be performed live at the “String Quartet Smackdown” at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar from hundreds of submissions around the world, but YOU will choose the champion!
Hosted by Graham Reynolds, Peter Stopschinski, and Judlyne Gibson, Invoke will perform the composition live in four bracketed rounds.
For more information about this event or the organization, please visit www.goldenhornet.org. Golden Hornet is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin’s Economic Development Department.
Tickets are $12 each and correspond to seat selections made via the Alamo Drafthouse website.
Specific seats for persons with disabilities and their companions are available, but as with every seat, are sold on a first come, first serve basis.
Capacity is limited to 198, and tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
Parking is available in Lamar Union’s parking garages. We recommend entering the parking garage located off Treadwell. From Lamar, go west on Treadwell and the garage entrance will be immediately to your left. For Thursday openings and most Friday or Saturday evenings, allow some additional time to find a space.
