Beerthoven Presents: Take Me to Your Lieder

Beerthoven Presents: Take Me to Your Lieder

Presented by Beerthoven Concert Series at Saengerrunde Hall

What do fleas, Craigslist ads, and Jupiter’s moons have in common? They have all been the subjects of great works of art music, from Beethoven to Bernstein!

While these might be strange and unexpected subjects for art music, through them we learn something about the strangest subjects of all—people! Beerthoven invites you along for the ride, featuring I Hate Music by Leonard Bernstein, Gabriel Kahane’s Craigslistlieder, and selections by Ravel, Saint-Saens, Mussorgsky, and Beethoven.

Beerthoven will raise a glass once again to soprano Charissa Memrick (previously featured in last season’s finale, “Caffeinated Composers”) and welcome pianist Martin Kesuma, bass singer Mikhail Smigelski, and flutist Seetha Shivaswamy.

A special Thursday evening performance on January 30th at 7:30 pm will also take place at a private residence in South Austin, open to season subscribers and past attendees of two or more Beerthoven events. Direct invitations will be emailed by January 10th.

Like all our Beerthoven programs, this program will be family-friendly; children 3 and under are free. $10 discount tickets are available the day of the performance for children 4-18 as well as adult students of a college or university.

Beerthoven is a Sponsored Project of the Austin Creative Alliance. This program is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.

Special thanks to Alex Labry for providing photography for our event header.

About Beerthoven:

The Beerthoven Concert Series is a down-to-earth, approachable celebration of classical song and chamber music; a quirky mixture of Oktoberfest and Bach Fest, presented in a unique and intimate setting. Beerthoven finds its inspiration from the musical and festive events at the Austin Saengerrunde as well as the private “salon” concerts of Beethoven’s own time. All Beerthoven events feature snacks, drinks, and live classical music, all included with admission. There is no backstage area here; audience members may even find themselves standing in line for beer with the performers. The Beerthoven Concert Series is a Sponsored Project of the Austin Creative Alliance. Beerthoven is made possible through the support of the Austin Saengerrunde and individual benefactors.
