This evening performance will feature Armenian Contemporary, Folk and Classical music performed on the Santour, the Armenian national instrument, with Piano, keyboard and Armenian Dhol (Armenian percussion instrument). Armenian santour maestro Sarkis Petrosyan, internationally acclaimed pianist Hamayag Hovanessian with famous vocalists Vazgen Avetyan and Emma Tovmasyan from California. The performers were classically trained at the Komitas State Conservatory.
The Santour, similiar to the Romanian cimbalom or the Ukranian cimbali, is a stringed instrument, a hammered dulcimer played with mallets to create a unique range of sound.
