Art Spark Texas (formerly VSA Texas) brings award-winning, contemporary dance company EXIT12 to Austin’s Dougherty Art Center Oct. 18 and 19 (8 pm) for a performance of “Stories of War” told through monologues, poetry and dance.
The battlefield transforms into a stage as the EXIT12 veterans recount incredible moments of sacrifice, courage, triumph, and loss. These stories are then realized in choreography. The evening is an intimate experience where veterans will share experiences of war, service, and coming home to embark on a positive search for a hopeful future.
Part of the “Stories of War” performance includes public participation. A performance workshop, free and open to the public (registration required), is being offered October 14-17, 6:00-9:00 pm at the Doughtery Art Center. Participants will be part of the performance Friday, October 18 and Saturday October 19. No previous dance experience is necessary. Tickets for the Dance performance are $15 / $10 for veterans, students and seniors.
