Dawn & Hawkes

By both Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawke’s own admission, the whole thing was originally just supposed to be a little “side project.” The idea was, she’d sing her songs, he’d sing his, and now and then they’d sweeten the set with a little harmony. That was their plan in the beginning, at least. But fortunately for Dawn and Hawkes and the rest of us, fate, better judgment, and most of all a whole lotta love intervened.

Hawkes, a gifted front man, lead guitarist, and aspiring producer had played in a rock band in the greater Dallas area before relocating to Austin. Dawn, a native of the “Live Music Capital of the World,” was off to a promising start with her own music career. The stage was literally set for their fateful convergence – and they’ve been inseparable ever since. In just a few short years, they have been finalists at the prestigious New Folk Songwriting Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival, embarked on whirlwind three years of constant cross-country touring and became a head (and chair) turning act on The Voice, where judge Adam Levine called their performance of the Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen a Face” his favorite blind audition ever (and the single version sold more than 25,000 copies in its first week alone, charting at number 1 on Billboard’s rock chart).
