Join us for a presentation of new scenes from the feature Documentary PEYOTEROS. The presentation will include updates on the film’s production and a conversation with director and producer Eugenio del Bosque.
In deep South Texas near the US–Mexico border, four Mexican American individuals are the only government licensed peyote dealers in the United States. Considered a controlled substance by the Drug Enforcement Agency, peyote is used as sacred sacrament by members of the Native American Church, who can buy and transport the plant legally only when they buy it from a licensed dealer in South Texas. Tens of thousands of plants are harvested every year on privately owned land, but supply is threatened by land development, over harvesting, poaching, politics, climate change, and the vanishing tradition of the peyote dealers.
Eugenio del Bosque is a Filmmaker, Photographer and Arts Administrator currently working on his first documentary feature as director and producer. For the past fifteen years Eugenio has collaborated in international and regional documentary and narrative features and award winning multimedia journalism projects as a photographer, producer, editor, and cultural liaison. From 2006 to 2014, Eugenio served as Executive Director of the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival, creating theatrical exhibition opportunities for over 1,600 independent Latino and indigenous films.
