Oscar Cásares Reading and Book Signing

Presented by Harry Ransom Center at Harry Ransom Center

“My only goal as far as the immigration part was to put a human face on this and to get it, I would hope, beyond the politics.”

In his novel, “Where We Come From,” Oscar Cásares tells a story about the souls, rather than the numbers, behind the immigration crisis. Cásares is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Copernicus Society of America, and the Texas Institute of Letters. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, he teaches creative writing at the University of Texas at Austin.

Join Cásares as he reads excerpts from his stunning and timely novel about a Mexican-American family in Brownsville that reluctantly becomes involved in smuggling immigrants into the United States. There will be a book signing and reception following the reading.
