Lecture: Roy Foster on “Hearts with One Purpose Alone”: W. B. Yeats and the Irish Revolution

Presented by Harry Ransom Center at Harry Ransom Center

What part did Ireland’s greatest poet W. B. Yeats play in the extraordinary events that brought about Ireland’s independence from Britain? Acclaimed historian and Yeats biographer Roy Foster reveals the explosive interaction between literature, culture, and politics in Ireland in Yeats’s time.

Foster has written extensively on Irish revolutionary culture and Yeats; his writing includes the authorized biography of the poet and the critically lauded Vivid Faces: The Revolutionary Generation in Ireland 1890–1923. Attendees are invited to a reception immediately following. This event is supported by the Consulate General of Ireland in Austin.

The program is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome. Seating is first-come, first-served, and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
