50 years ago we performed our first concert, Requiem. Today, we recreate that event. Known as Ein Deutsches Requiem, Brahms chose not to set a traditional liturgical text, nor to focus on the terror of the last judgment; instead, the composer selected his own passages from scripture. Using the Luther translation of the Bible, the adjective ‘deutsches’ simply refers to the language employed (not Latin). Brahms himself thought of the owrk as a human Requiem, one of hope and consoloation for those touched by grief. It is in this spirit that we present the beloved masterpiece in a special English adaptation. This will be a Texas premier.
