Presented by Six Square, Austin’s Black Cultural District, the District Cultural Arts Fest is a celebration that honors the rich legacy and cultural contributions of Central Texas’ Black community.
A yearly festival in East Austin, that explores and highlights the multi-faceted talents of Black creatives as well as reclaims space for community in Austin’s historically Black neighborhoods. During the day (3-7pm), there’ll be a craft and food vendor market featuring local Black-owned businesses as well as four activations that showcase a variety of Black cultural expressions. Explore the origin of staple dishes in Black cuisine, storytelling with Black activists and artists, a Speaker Series with Austin-based creatives of color and a live painting by two Austin-based Black mural artists, a community mural, and a digital art installation.
In the evening the music festival will kick off featuring a wide spectrum of Black performers spanning from soul, blues, jazz, rock, and hip-hop. Headlining is Grammy-nominated Maimouna Youssef (aka Mumu Fresh). On August 31, 2019, join everyone in continuing to create a nexus of thriving Black arts and culture in East Austin. This is a family-friendly event. All are welcome!
