The AZTLAN Dance Company presents The AZTLAN Project II: Echoes of the Mind, July 12-14th at the ESB-Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River Street, in Austin, Texas. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8pm; Sunday matinee at 2pm. Tickets are avail
Project Description
The AZTLAN Project 2019: Echoes of the Mind is the second installment of the AZTLAN Project Trilogy and explores Borderlands myth and culture in all of its rich and distinct complexities. Narrated by the eccentric Coyotero truth-keeper, the work reveals the multiple competing spaces that vie to give the term AZTLAN its valued status in U.S. Southwestern cultural production. The three original choreographies of Origins, Nepantla/Between-ness, and deColonial Imaginaries will leave audiences captivated and spellbound as dancers slither through intricate ideas of myth, legend, and reality that inform Latina/o sensibilities. Says AZTLAN artistic director Roén Salinas, “Echoes of the Mind amplifies the space of dance with deep cultural meaning to narrate what it means to live life in modern America.”
