Dancestry keeps historic modern dance vividly alive and offers audiences the opportunity to engage with these iconic masterpieces through live performances and post-performance interactives.
Shay Ishii Dance Company presents the fifth anniversary of Dancestry! Dancestry is a celebration of artistic heritage and revival of historic dance. This year’s production, Dancestry…anew, is a collection of reconstructions, restagings and reimaginings that elaborate on the masterworks of modern dance pioneers, Loïe Fuller, Isadora Duncan and Erick Hawkins with contemporary technology and media. The program culminates with new works by the collaborating artists who have studied and embodied the techniques, philosophies and choreography of these dance icons. Anew traces dancers and choreographers across generations with a rich historical narrative and a compelling contemporary voice.
The Saturday matinee is a family friendly afternoon of concert dance and interaction with the dancers, artists and sets.
Collaborating Artists include: Meg Brooker (Duncan Dance Project), Jessica Lindberg Coxe (Lindberg/Slayter Reconstructions), Katherine Duke, (Artistic Director of Erick Hawkins Dance Foundation), Shay Ishii and Megan Slayter (Lindberg/Slayter Reconstructions).
