The Austin Civic Orchestra presents a Pictures from Russia concert featuring student art inspired by Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition on Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the AISD Performing Arts Center.
Enjoy Mussorgsky’s masterpiece along with music by other Russian composers as part of the orchestra’s Destination: Europe season. Winning artwork from the ACO’s Paint to Music contest for students in grades three through twelve will be displayed during a pre-concert art show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The program includes: Sleeping Beauty Waltz by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky; Horn Concerto, Mvts. II & III by Reinhold Glière, featuring ACO hornist Chris Simpson; Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich; and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky.
Tickets for the performance are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors, members of the military, and college students. The orchestra continues to offer free admission for youth (18 years old and younger) in an effort to support the next generation of classical music enthusiasts.
