Ensemble VIII closes out its 2018-2019 season with “When Heaven Is Wedded to Earth: Franco-Flemish Music of Springtime” on May 2 at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church and May 3 at St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
A contemporary of the legendary Josquin des Prez, Antoine Brumel is one of the most influential composers of the Franco-Flemish school of composition. Bridging the gap of the rhythmic complexity of the medieval period to the smooth imitative style of the late Renaissance, Brumel’s Earthquake Mass transports the listener to another realm with sounds that wed heaven to earth. Featuring additional music by early and late Franco-Flemish composers Dufay, Ockeghem and Josquin, this concert promises to reveal Brumel’s compositional genius in converging multiple styles into one unique and brilliant sound.
