Herd of Harpsichords

Herd of Harpsichords

Presented by La Follia Austin Baroque at Redeemer Presbyterian Church

The incomparable Anton Nel joins director Keith Womer and Donald Livingston to perform the complete concertos for two and three harpsichords with string orchestra by J. S. Bach. Dianne Donovan from KMFA Classical 89.5 will provide commentary during the concert.

Plan to come a bit early for the best seating, as these concerts are especially popular.

Bach was perhaps the first composer to write concertos featuring the harpsichord. He certainly wrote the most harpsichord concertos (thirteen known). These were often arrangements of his orchestral works, and most likely performed over a ten-year period at weekly concerts at Zimmerman’s Coffee House in Leipzig.  The energy and visual splendor of multiple harpsichords in concert must have wowed audiences as much then as they do now.
