Learn from Front Steps caseworkers, who will share stories about found objects at the intersection of homelessness and humanity in an activation of the exhibition Abraham Cruzvillegas: Hi, how are you, Gonzo?
In response to the recycled materials of Abraham Cruzvillegas’s art, Front Steps, who manage Austin’s downtown shelter for the homeless, will bring discarded and found materials from the sidewalks around the shelter to the museum. Through the lens of these objects, caseworkers will focus homelessness within our community. The cardboard that is raw material for an artist, litter to a sanitation worker, or packaging for a business is temporary housing for many of our neighbors.
An important component of Austin’s downtown scene, Front Steps will share stories of their work with the public. Join the organization for an hour-long discussion and discover the unexpected insights to be gained from socks, single-use hygiene products, shopping carts, blankets, and other things that accumulate at the intersections of homelessness, humanity, and philanthropy.
