The Dougherty Arts Center seeks young, enthusiastic, community driven Theatre Artists to participate in its inaugural Young Theatre Makers Festival, November 7th, 2015!

We are looking for show that inspire our audience to understand the importance of our city parks and the part they play in maintaining the culture of our communities. This is your opportunity to take the everyday interactions in the park, from the mundane to the magnificent, and bring them to life on the stage.

Collaborate with peers and mentors to write, direct, and perform in a world premiere event. 

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

WRITE:  We are looking for original scripts whose storyline takes place in a park setting.  Put your writing talent to use and bring those stories from the page to the stage!  Submissions must be no longer than 30 minutes and contain less than five characters. Scripts must be double-spaced and typed in 12 point font. Scripts can be sent to lucy.miller-downing@austintexas.gov. Please include only your name, email and phone number ONLY in the body of your email. Deadline for submissions is Friday, September 4th.

DIRECT: Lead through the collaborative process of directing a world premiere!  Directors will be selected through an application and interview process. Once selected, directors will be paired up with a professional theatre artist to help guide them through the entire creative process. All director applicants must be between the ages of 17-22, and be enrolled in school. To apply for a director’s position, please send a cover letter and resume to lucy.miller-downing@austintexas.gov. Interviews will take place after August 16th, 2015.

ACT: Young aspiring performers are invited to audition at the Dougherty Arts Center on Wednesday, October 15th between 6-9pm. All actors must be between the ages of 17-22 years. Requests for audition times will begin after October 1st. For more information please call 512-974-4045.
