Summer and Bird by Katherine Catmull

Summer and Bird by Katherine Catmull

Presented by Austin Playhouse at Austin Playhouse ACC

When their parents suddenly go missing, young sisters Summer and Bird are transported to the fantasy bird world, Down, in a quest to reunite their family. Summer and Bird are quickly separated and go in very different directions as they seek their missing parents, vanquish the evil Puppeteer, lead the talking birds back to their Green Home, and discover the identity of the true bird queen. The two sisters learn valuable lessons along the way, but the most important lesson is that the strength of a families’ love exists no matter the distance.

Austin Playhouse commissioned Katherine Catmull’s adaptation of Summer and Bird from her acclaimed middle grade novel.

Summer and Bird will have public performances on Friday, May 3rd at 7:30 pm, Saturday, May 4th and 11th at 2:00 pm & 7:30 pm, Sunday, May 5th and 12th at 2:00 pm. In addition to public performances, Summer and Bird is also available for schools and camps throughout central Texas. For more information, contact Austin Playhouse’s Theatre for Youth Coordinator, Marie Fahlgren, at info@austinplayhouse.com.

Austin Playhouse believes that an early introduction to theatre helps students learn creativity, social skills and critical thinking. Students should be challenged to actively listen, imagine new worlds, and relate to the struggles of characters on stage. At its best, theatre introduces new cultures and ideas, as well as new ways of looking at our own culture and ideas.
