The ESB Mexican American Cultural Center is teaming up with Frida Friday ATX to produce an incredible celebration of womxn inspired by the first feminist in the New World; Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. This free annual event will include artisans, entrepeneurs, authors, and musicians, along with an afternoon full of hands-on activities for all ages.

Performers will take the main stage on the Zócalo (outdoor plaza) as well as the auditorium. This family-friendly event will feature:

MARKETPLACE: (in the Zócalo):
• Frida Friday ATX is a latinx founded, womxn of color centered, monthly marketplace and cultural space. For the first time, this carefully curated artisan market with jewelry, clothing, flower crowns, paintings, gifts, and collectibles will be featured at the 2019 La Mujer festival. https://www.facebook.com/fridafridayatx/

MUSIC (in the Zócalo):
• DJ Ella Ella will be spinning tunes in English/ Spanish throughout the afternoon
• Trio Valendoza, a family trio playing traditional Latin American songs
• Bidi Bidi Banda, Austin’s popular Selena cover band

SPECIAL PERFORMANCES (in the Auditorium):
• Ire’re Lara Silva, celebrated author of recently released book Cuicacalli/House of Song, presents Canto de Mujer, a literary celebration with womxn authors from all over Texas

• Lourdes Perez, prolific singer-songwriter presents “VoxFem: Unearthing the Female Voice” showcasing women songwriters/composers and visual artists from each country and occupied/colonized territory in the world. VoxFem centers women of color artists, women performing original work, non-English languages and LBTQI artists.

VISUAL ART: (in the Galleries):
• Exhibitions “Con Cariño” by Tiffany Moreno and “El Muro y El Ocelote” by Yareth Fernandez (on display April 5-June 8)
• Tiffany Moreno and Yareth Fernandez will give gallery talks on their artistic process during the event

WORKSHOPS: (in the Zócalo):
• Children’s activities include planter decorating and mask making with the MACC Education Department
• Tortilla making demonstration with Priscilla Jerez aka “Tortilla Mami” from Cool Beans

MOSAIC MURAL (in the Zócalo):
In the Summer of 2018, the teens from the ESB-MACC Teen Caminos Program decided to embark upon a large scale mosaic mural arts project honoring the contributions of Latinas to our society. We will be unveiling this timeless public artwork for the first time to the public during the La Mujer Festival!
