Ultima Thule is an exhibition of new works by Alyssa Taylor Wendt and Kate Csillagi, who have joined forces for the first time to bring us a journey into secret transitional spaces using drawing, sculpture, photography and other collaborative ventures. Through intuitive processes and investigations into genetic memory and planes of non-reality,  these two Austin-based artists use motifs of spiritual cartography, pageantry, textile and mercurial materials to dissolve predictable margins of observation.

Alyssa Taylor Wendt is an interdisciplinary visual artist, filmmaker and curator who works in Austin, Texas and Detroit, Michigan. Her recent projects reference ritual, animism, monuments, mysticism, the primordial, architecture, gender and mortality using video, sculpture, staged photographs, sound and performance. She earned her BA from NYU and her MFA from Bard College. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and she has performed at The Museum of Art and Design in NY, envoy gallery, The Fusebox Festival and Deitch Projects and attended residencies in Norway and Iceland. Her recent opus multichannel video work H A I N T premiered at the Visual Arts Center at UT Austin and was the 2018 official winner of the International Istanbul Experimental Film Festival.

Kate Csillagi lives and works in Austin, TX. Csillagi creates provocative and absurd narratives by way of fabric collage, drawing and found object assemblage. Csillagi’s works unearth psychotropic, sacred and primal imagery while maintaining a whimsical approach. Inspired by society’s misfits, her work explores themes of duality, the supernatural and the playfully forbidden. Csillagi has shown work and contributed to renegade art spaces throughout the United States in Reno, Nashville, New York, Olympia and Austin.
