Sarkis Petrosyan presenting Armenian Melodies in Austin, a program of folk and Classical music. Featuring famous vocalist Armen Hovhannisyan. Friday, February 22 and Saturday February 23, 2019 at Triumphant Love Lutheran Church at 7 pm.
This evening’s performance will feature Armenian folk and classical music performed on the santour, the Armenian national instrument, with piano and Armenian dhol (Armenian percussion) accompaniment. Armenian santour maestro Sarkis Petrosyan, internationally acclaimed pianist Hamayag Hovanessian with Artour Galstyan. The Trio invite famous vocalist Armen Hovhannisyan from California. They will perform folk and Classical music which spans the Armenian tradition from the 12th century to the 20th century. The performers were classically trained at the Komitas State Conservatory. The santour, similar to the Romanian cimbalom or the Ukrainian cimbali, is a stringed instrument, a hammered dulcimer played with mallets to create a unique range of sound.
