In celebration of Black History Month, the Dougherty Arts Center is honored to host a special free screening of the documentary The Gospel According To André.
Described as “Pleasurably Indulgent” by The Guardian and a “Cinematic Ride” by the New York Times; The Gospel According To André is a must see for all who enjoy American history, fashion, art, and rooting for the underdog.
From the segregated Jim Crow South to the capitals of the world, the life and career of style icon André Leon Talley are on full display in this poignant film by Kate Novack. Drawing unexplored connections between the elegance of André’s beloved grandmother and the Black Church of his youth and his later iconic, barrier-breaking work at Vogue, The Gospel According to André weaves together archival footage from the most glamorous moments in fashion history with André’s poignant reflections on his life and career.
