Blues from Deep in the Heart: a kick-off for Texas Folklife’s “Stories from Deep in the Heart” Summer Institute, will feature performances by blues musicians and some stories behind the music.

About the Stories Summer Institute 2015:
This summer, Austin-area high school students and middle school or high school teachers and administrators will participate in Texas Folklife’s 2015 “Stories from Deep in the Heart” Summer Institute, a 5-day intensive fellowship in audio documentary production with professional producers, journalists and cultural workers. Participants will be guided through production of short audio documentaries on themes related to folklife—-family and community traditions.

This year Texas Folklife is partnering with the East Side Kings Blues Festival to document the stories of east Austin African-American blues musicians, highlight the historical importance of Austin blues, and celebrate the living blues traditions still thriving in Austin.

The Stories Summer Institute is part of an ongoing series of workshops for teachers and students in the Austin area and Central Texas schools.
