Simon Ripley, a Director of the Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter, South West England, has been working alongside the staff of the Mobile Art Program to make art with seniors experiencing early memory loss. In the UK Simon does similar work taking printmaking into the community, working with adults with mental illness and seniors in hospital. You can see the U.K. work at this website: http://www.doubleelephant.org.uk/
Simon will be showing examples of the artwork that has been made by participants over the last two weeks. He will also show his own prints. While in Texas, Simon will be printmaking at Flatbed Press in Austin to make new work in response to his workshops with Mobile Art. Simon will talk about his work in the UK and also discuss approaches to participatory work with vulnerable people. Please join us for refreshments during the reception. This project has been made possible by a collaboration with VSA Texas, AGE of Central Texas, and a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
