Presented by Pump Project Art Complex at Cloud Tree Studios & Gallery

Place + Repeat is an exhibition featuring two Austin-based female artists Steef Crombach and Andrea Muñoz Martinez. The exhibition explores identity, culture, environment, associations, safety, presentation, and place amongst others through Crombach and Martinez’s akin practices that involve repetition of pattern and process.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Steef Crombach (b. 1992) was raised in Maastricht in the South of the Netherlands. She lives and works in Austin as an artist, curator, and teacher at The Contemporary Art School at Laguna Gloria. Crombach earned her B.F.A from the Royal Academy of the Arts in The Hague in 2014. Upon graduating, Crombach sought to investigate the universal interpretation of the themes in her work by changing the environment and the culture she, and her work, belonged. This led to her curating, exhibiting, and researching in Austin from 2014 to 2018, after which she moved to Austin permanently. During this time, Crombach organized and curated the six-artist Batik exhibition at Co-Lab Projects “Expedition Batikback”. Her work “Piet” is exhibited at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam. She is a recipient of the Emerging Artist grant from Mondriaan Fund.

Andrea Muñoz Martinez (b. 1981) was raised in Uvalde, a rural Texas town less than an hour from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, where her mother was born. She currently lives and works as full-time artist in Austin. Martinez earned her B.F.A in Studio Art from The University of Texas at Austin and her M.F.A. from the University of California, Davis. She studied art history, drawing, metals and documentary film-making at Ox-Bow in Michigan, in the Czech Republic, and Italy. Her work has been exhibited at the Santa Chiara Study Center in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy, the John Nicholas Brown Center at Brown University in Providence, RI, the Visual Art Center at The University of Texas at Austin and the Nelson Gallery at the University of California, Davis.

ABOUT THE SPACE:
