Held inside a warehouse space at 3615 Oak Springs Dr, Still Life III: Bathhouse will feature a duet exploring the movement possibilities crafted within an installation of multiple bathroom sets built into a frame of scaffolding. This quirky one-day-only performance piece will blend virtuosity, endurance and pedestrian characteristics into witty choreography. The performance will occur from 11am-7pm allowing audiences to stay for as long as they like or return at any time to observe how the work evolves throughout the day. This work is the third installment of BLiPSWiTCH’s Still Life series that have been presented as two-hour continuous performances as part of Revolve: A Movement DisplayStill Life 375º (2016) and Still Life II: A Study of the Study (2017). These works explored relationships between human interaction and inanimate objects found within the American household and commented on constructed gender normalizations society places upon specific people and objects. Through set and movement design, this new work will continue these themes to demonstrate how society’s standards influence the roles played within the common spaces of American households with a witty, whimsical approach.
