Self Portrait: Tent (Skin)

Self Portrait: Tent (Skin)

Presented by Self Portrait: Tent (Skin) at F Loren Winship Drama Building B.202

Conceived by brothers Benjamin and Mason Rosenthal and co-created with dance and multimedia artist Alexander J. Romania as part of their ongoing “Self-Portrait” collaboration (since 2014), “Tent (Skin)” is an interdisciplinary performance in, and around, a 120 square foot tent.

Through personal storytelling, weightlifting, and chewing on beeswax, Benjamin performs a version of himself for the audience. Romania, in his role as Benjamin’s psychopomp “The Stuff,” dances in glowing green latex masks cast from his own family members’ faces. Spending a majority of the time hiding inside the tent, Mason serves as translator and advocate for the audience through the use of live voiceover, projection, and shadow play.

Admission is free and seating is limited. There are no reservations.
The performance is approximately 70 minutes in length.
The performance includes nudity and discussions of mental health.

This project is supported by the City of Austin Economic Development Cultural Arts Division, The University of Austin Fine Arts Diversity Committee, and the University of Austin’s Performance as Public Practice program.
