Rick Said So is an eerie absurdist 75 minutes of physical theatre. Through cycles of dexterous movement, surreal images, candidly intimate monologues, and original live music, Rick Said So follows themes of what compels us as humans, ultimately essaying the absurdity of existence.
Frank Wo/Men Collective presents its third evening-length physical theatre project, Rick Said So, November 2-4 at 8pm at ASoF’s warehouse space at 2200 Tillery.
In Rick Said So, “Rick” (who/whatever Rick is) becomes a metaphor for a multitude—internal impulses and external forces that drive decision-making toward an eventual and yet undefined endpoint. At times suspenseful and at times nutty, Rick Said So highlights the exemplary and the mundane through physicality and text, venturing into human cognition with pleasantly shocking doses of perspective.
Preceding each performance will be food-nibbles, drink-dribbles, and mingling, followed by an after-party including artistic work from other mix-discipline artists throughout Austin, Texas.
Admission is sliding scale $5-25: https://frank-wo-men-collective.ticketleap.com/rick-said-so/
About Frank Wo/Men:
Frank Wo/Men Collective is a group of fresh, multitalented creatives—dancers, actors, sound and film artists—based in Austin and NYC. The artists co-produce a multitude of forward-thinking pieces which are at times fervid, humorous, or idiosyncratic. Frank Wo/Men works are underpinned with the collective’s shared values of social awareness, intersectional feminism, androgyny, body positivity, and life choice acceptances.
Frank Wo/Men’s highly-received 2017 debut Loose Gravel was hailed by Fjord Review’s Jonelle Seitz as “contemplative, skilled, inventive, and often hilarious.” Frank Benge of Broadway World deemed the evening “raw, edgy, and occasionally brilliant.” The collective’s second large production Tiskettasket, an interactive physical theater show centered around multi-purposing food, was performed in a converted garage shop to highly enthusiastic, sold-out audiences. Frank Wo/Men Collective was nominated as Best Ensemble by the Austin Critics Table in 2017 and was named one of Top Ten Thrills in Dance of 2017 by the Austin Chronicle.
Frank Wo/Men Collective is fiscally sponsored by Salvage Vanguard Theater.
