One of India’s greatest musicians, Amjad Ali Khan is the unrivaled master of the 19-string fretless North Indian lute called the sarod. Born to Indian music legend Haafiz Ali Khan and heir to illustrious musical lineage that invented the instrument itself, Khan gave his first recital at age 6 and was a national celebrity by his teens. Marked by a plaintive, almost voice-like sonority and nearly superhuman speed and clarity, Khan’s artistry has gathered legions of fans from all corners of the globe. Over his illustrious career he has recorded dozens of genre-defining albums and received an impressive collection of awards, including the UNESCO Award, the Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government and the Padma Vibhushan, the highest civilian honor awarded by the government of India. Khan has collaborated with a staggering array of artists from around the world, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic and jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd .He is also the first north indian musician to have performed in the Saint Thyagaraja festival at the the Thiruvaiyaru shrine ( He learnt and played the composition “Soga Suga Mrdanga Talamu”). In 2014 Amjad Ali Khan and his children played at the predtigious Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo, Norway as well as the Nobel Peace Prize Concert along with the line up of Queen Latta, Steven Tyler, Numno Bettencourt and LauraMvula
