Austin Museum Day at Mexic-Arte Museum

Austin Museum Day at Mexic-Arte Museum

Presented by Mexic-Arte Museum at Mexic-Arte Museum

Mexic-Arte Museum is excited to be part of the 21st Annual Austin Museum Day. The citywide celebration invites the community to enjoy free access to exhibits and activities in participating museums around Austin. Over forty institutions will be offering special programming for visitors throughout the day.

Mexic-Arte Museum will be hosting a special artist workshop with the 2018 Viva la Vida Festival Artist in Residence, Kuniklo. Art activities will highlight this year’s theme of “Alebrijes”, fantastical creatures of Mexican folklore—most recently featured in Disney-Pixar’s movie Coco. KUNIKLO will guide visitors (of all ages) through the creation of decorative masks and alebrije caterpillars using recycled materials.

In addition to the artist workshop, the Paramount Theatre Education team will hold a special story-time reading of The Remembering Day by Pat Mora. This special bilingual picture book for children creates an origin myth that imagines how the Mexican custom of remembering deceased loved ones – El Día de los Muertos – came to be. Paramount Education will also be giving away tickets to see Tomás and the Library Lady, coming to the Paramount on October 21. This bilingual musical celebrates literacy and is based on the popular children’s book by author, Pat Mora.
