The Austin Symphony performs two titans from the Romantic Period, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms.

The evening will begin with a piece from an Austin Symphony Sarah and Ernest Butler Texas Young Composers Competition winner, Paul Novak. His piece On Buoyancy was the winning piece from the 2017 competition.

The the evening will continue with Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 in D Minor written in 1841. “Many commentators have referred to 1841, the year following Clara and Robert’s marriage in September 1840, as the composer’s “Symphony Year.”

The concert will conclude with the return of pianist Orli Shaham, performing Johannes Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major. “Brahms completed this concerto in 1881 living near Vienna. It is dedicated to his teacher, Eduard Marxsen. It was an immediate success when he premiered it in Budapest on November 9th, 1881. Brahms was the soloist.
