21st Anniversary Picnic Bombazo

21st Anniversary Picnic Bombazo

Presented by Puerto Rican Cultural Center at Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance and Cultural Center

If it rains, we will be indoors.

Bring your beach chair & maraca! Special guests Grupo Walagante (Garifuna of Honduras) joins Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance as they celebrate their 21st birthday — with a Picnic Bombazo under the trees! Come experience Garifuna traditions, and dance bomba, plena, and Taino traditional dances in the grass! Bring the children to help us blow out the candles — this cultural exchange also includes performances by Puerto Rican cultural center students.

It brings Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance joy to share this landmark occasion with the Garifuna people! During and before the 16th century our ancestors – the Taino and Carib Indigenous people of the Caribbean – shared a history that forever changed our worlds. And although our cultures were transformed in unique ways by the contribution of African heritage, our drums unite us!

The 21st anniversary celebration will take place on Sunday, September 9 from 2-5pm, under the grandmother Pecan Trees at the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, 701 Tillery Street, Austin TX 78702. (If it rains, it will be moved indoors.)
