At the core of this year’s event is a performance of Graham Reynolds‘ groundbreaking work THE DIFFERENCE ENGINE in collaboration with Austin’s own Density512 and Boston-based HUB New Music. This massive work showcases the unique diversity of Reynolds’ compositional voice and delves deep into the complex mind of mathematician Charles Babbage, who is credited with originating the concept of a digital programmable computer in the early 1800’s. In addition to this, HUB will be showcasing their unique flavor of chamber music wizardry with a set of works written for them by some of today’s most innovative composers.

One Ounce Opera will be reprising their American premiere of DOOR, a gripping journey through claustrophobia, relationship breakdown, depression, and escapism. Continuing with the theme of early innovation in computer science, One Ounce Opera is also teaming up with Density512 to present composer Kenneth Froelich’s FINITE DIFFERENCES, which tells the story of Ada Lovelace, recognized by many as the world’s first computer programmer. Co-founded by Sandie Donzica and François Minaux, Corps Multiple will be featured in between sets. Their multi-disciplinary project (UN)ROOTED opens the discussion on the deep need for belonging, roots, pairs and marks, inherent to human kind.
