AZTLAN Dance Company presents the Texas ‘Deep-Fried’ Enchilada Western, a choreo-drama that follows the travelling Desperados into the rich and complex spaces of Southwest Texas myth and legend.
As the 3rd installment of AZTLAN’s Enchilada Western choreo-drama trilogy, Texas Deep-Fried explores Borderlands myth and culture in all of its rich and delicious complexities. Texas Deep-Fried narrates the journey of forsaken desperados as they confront the legendary Southwestern Tampico Tonic vendor. Through episodes of vertigo, mirage, and delusion onset by the hot Texas sun, the traveling desperados confront their fears and pains as they are guided by the wisdom of the Moon goddess. Notes artistic director Roén Salinas, “Imagining the spaces between here and there, somewhere and nowhere, irrefutably in the present, AZTLAN’s Enchilada Western takes audiences into the beauty and danger of borderlands crossings.” AZTLAN merges tradition and modernity into original creative dance interpretations that provide glimpses into the sights, sounds, and movements that renders contemporary Border/Frontera culture.
