Presented by Mexic-Arte Museum at Mexic-Arte Museum

Date: Friday, August 24, 2018

Time: 5:30 – 8:30pm

Mexic-Arte Museum invites you to our First Annual Member Appreciation Party and YLA 23 Closing Reception. Join Museum Board Members and staff for a festive evening celebrating our community’s ongoing support. Gain insights into Museum happenings over the last year and learn about our upcoming 2018-2019 programming while enjoying complimentary antojitos from Eldorado Cafe ATX and drinks from Dulce Vida Tequila.

The celebration will feature a special performance by singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez, a dance performance by YLA 23 artist Raul Gonzalez, and screen printing activities by the Museum’s Education Department. Make sure to join us for the celebration!

ABOUT CARRIE RODRIGUEZ:
Singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez is a Berklee-trained, Mexican-American fiddle player who finds beauty in the cross-pollination of diverse traditions. A passionate performer, she effortlessly melds fiery fiddle playing, electrifying vocals and a fresh interpretation of new and classic songs with an “Ameri-Chicana” attitude. Discussing Rodriguez’s bilingual album “Lola,” NPR’s Felix Contreras notes, “I don’t think I have ever heard anything express so powerfully the kind of bicultural existence so many of us live.”

ABOUT RAUL GONZALEZ:
#YLA23 artist Raul Gonzalez has worked in drawing, painting, performance, collaging, and printmaking processes. His dance performances weave compelling narratives while being inspired by a combination of dance and abstract painting. The music selected for each performance includes a curated playlist of songs he listens to while working in the privacy of his studio. By activating the space through dance, Raul in essence creates an ephemeral painting in space by using his body to create and express movement, rhythm, color, and emotion.
