This satiric play tells the story of two marionette puppets with a human child who starts growing strings of his own – and the kindergarten teacher who takes it upon herself to save him.
A Real Boy by Stephen Kaplan is the satirical allegory of two marionette puppets raising their human son who begins developing his own set of strings.
What is viewed as a joyous event in the puppet community is seen with derision and disgust by the rest of society, and his concerned kindergarten teach takes action to save the boy from the consequences of his upbringing.
The questions of who and what can make a family, legalizing love, and legislating parenthood are all addressed in through the delightful writings of Stephen Kaplan, and the masterful direction of Chelsea Beth.
Please note that while this show involves puppetry, it is not a children’s show.
