Join us for an evening of melodic bliss with the devastating and absurd music of the incomparable Baby Dee, “Music for Horizon Lines” – a piece composed for percussion quartet and electronics, and original music by Thor & Friends.
Baby Dee has lived many musical lives: classical harpist, church organist, circus performer, birdsong enthusiast, street artist, and songwriter of exquisite sensitivity and silliness. She has collaborated with and befriended folk luminaries such as Will Oldham, Andrew W.K., and Anhoni, and has toured with the likes of Marc Almond and the Dresden Dolls. Now Dee returns to Austin for the first time in nearly a decade to perform with Austin composers and musicians on arrangements of her catalog spanning nearly twenty years.
A meditative work in its nature, Music for Horizon Lines focuses on the process of healing, taking the listener on a sonic journey through a multitude of textures, from the heart pounding chaos of drums and distortion, through the sweet radiance of vibraphone drones, and voices. Polymath percussionist Thor Harris inaugurated “Thor & Friends” in the autumn of 2015 after five years of touring as the percussionist of iconic avant-rock ensemble Swans. The project is intended as a vehicle for experimentation with the conceptual vocabulary of American Minimalism collaborating with a rotating cast of Austin-based musicians.
