For 45 years, Austinites have been filming strange and wonderful moments for Austin Public Access TV. Come see what made Austin weird in the 80’s and 90’s!
“That’s Still Weird!” is a free public clip show of Austin Public Access TV history. Back in the days before YouTube, if you wanted to be entertained by wildness and weirdness, you just flipped the TV to channel 10. From banana drag queens, to foul mouthed puppets, to death metal bands, Austin citizens have been creating television since 1973. Come to the AFS Cinema on Monday July 9th and watch a carefully curated and restored clip show of oddball, off-the-wall Austin history. This event is part of the AFS Cinema “History of Television” program and co-hosted by the filmmakers of When We Were Live, a feature-length documentary about the heyday of Public Access TV.
This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
