On April 28-29, for the first time in Austin, TX, Dance Africa Fest welcomes Brazilian dancer-choreographer Rosangela Silvestre for an in-depth, two-day workshop exploring contemporary Brazilian dance and its African roots.
Dance Africa Fest welcomes Brazilian dancer-choreographer Rosangela Silvestre! Taught by a premier artist of modern-day African-influenced Brazilian dance, this high-energy workshop introduces students to a unique blend of traditional and modern dance techniques, with each class incorporating live drumming performed by some of Austin’s best musicians. This dance workshop series is sure to engage and delight students of all ages and levels!
Rosangela Silvestre is recognized for her development of Silvestre Technique, which has been adopted by dance communities in Brazil and the world over. This technique uniquely combines Brazilian Orixa dance movement, North American modern dance techniques like Horton and Graham, and other symbolic elements. She is also renowned for her classes on the Symbology of the Orixas, which focus on the “connections between the rhythms and the traditional movement, archetype, and story of the Orixa dances interpreted as an art form.”
