Find yourself transported to the streets of Paris and Havana through George Gershwin’s celebrated music during the Austin Civic Orchestra’s An American in Paris concert on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Southwestern University.
Isabel Tweraser, winner of the university’s 2017 concerto contest and an ACO member, will perform “Hungarian Rhapsody for Cello” by David Popper. Led by Music Director Lois Ferrari and Assistant Conductor Gus Sterneman, the orchestra will also perform: “An American in Paris” and “Cuban Overture” by George Gershwin; “Deep Summer Music” by Libby Larsen; “Piano Concerto, Canzone: Moderato” by Samuel Barber, featuring Toby Blumenthal on piano.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Get insight into the music during a pre-concert talk led by Ferrari and Sterneman from 6:45-7:15 p.m. on the second floor of the theater in the instrumental rehearsal room.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for members of the military, seniors and college students. Admission is free for youth up to the age of 18 and Southwestern University students, faculty and staff (with ID). Patrons can purchase tickets online or at the door.
