An Augmented Reality event at the State Capitol South Steps for Martin Luther King Day 2018, featuring audio from the winners of the MLK Oratory Contest. This digital event is partially funded by City of Austin Cultural Arts.
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, an Augmented Reality digital event will take place free at the Texas State Capitol grounds on Martin Luther King Day available to be experienced through the augzoo™ app through February 2018 at the Texas Capitol South Steps. The augzoo™ App is available on Google Play. You will need to have your wifi or data plan on to experience the installation.
The “Austin Remembers: MLK” digital installation is officially released January 15th, is location-specific and may only be experienced using augzoo™ for Android at the following locations:
– South Steps of the Texas Capitol extending to the Texas African-American Memorial Monument. (Jan 15th – Feb. 28th)
– Martin Luther King Statue at University of Texas’ East Mall on MLK Day.
– Huston-Tillotson University post-MLK Celebration @ Google Fiber Tent
– Carver Museum (Jan 16th – Jan. 27th )
The Augmented Reality event experienced through augzoo™ features photos from Dr. Martin Luther King’s Civil Rights Meetings with President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Photos are from the University of Texas LBJ Library. Audio speeches featured are from Austin Area Heritage Council’s MLK Oratory competition finalists. Six Square mini-docs of Austin’s African American Community may be found hovering over The Texas African American History monument while using augzoo™.
The digital installation spans from the South Steps of the Texas Capitol to the The Texas African American History monument, inside and just west of the Capitol’s south gates starting January 13th, 2018 for MLK Day and runs through the end of February 2018 in honor of Black History Month.
This event is partially funded by City of Austin Cultural Arts. Augmented Reality provided by augzoo LLC.
This event is a FREE event available for experience via augzoo™ in the Play Store.

On MLK Day, Monday January 15th, 2018 a similar digital installation will be available at the post-MLK March Celebration at Huston-Tillotson University with cell phones provided by Google Fiber to experience the digital event. Cell phones may be borrowed at the Google Fiber tent on Huston-Tillotson University campus grounds on Monday January 15th, 2018.
